Charity Dance Massive Success

Charity Dance Massive Success

Over 250 dancers from all over the south coast came along to Worthing Assembly Hall on Saturday 9th July 2018 to enjoy a one off, 2 room Modern Jive Freestyle event in aid of Erins Dream to Dance. An unexpected £3299.87 was raised through entry tickets and a raffle, making a massive difference to the worthwhile cause. Stacey Marley hosted this large event, supported by Paul of Justjive, Sue of Diamond Dance, Alex of JivePlay, and Ian and John of Danceaholics, all of which donated their time for free alongside guest DJ’s Greg Davidson & Dene Nevard.

The main raffle prize on the night was a one off signed McLaren Formula 1 staff shirt & photo signed by current drivers Fernando Alonzo & Stoffel Vandoorne complete with certificate of authenticity provided especially for the event. Other prizes included Afternoon Tea for Two at the Hilton Avisford Park, a Chocolate Hamper, Massage treatment, Hair cut and style dry, Afternoon Tea Hamper, large bottles of Whiskey, Champagne, and several free entry tickets to local dance class nights. £512 of the total raised came from the raffle.

Erin and her family joined us for the first half of the event and Erin loved being part of such a fantastic dance event, making her even more determined to achieve her dream of one day being able to dance.

Charity Dance – your Music & DJ’s

Charity Dance – your Music & DJ’s

In the Main Hall we have core Modern Jive music playing all evening. Your DJ’s will be Ian Partington, John Holder, Sue Diamond, Alex Cumbers, and a set with the popular Dene Nevard. These are your local familiar faces so they know what you like and are excited to play for you.

The Richmond Room offers a more Varied Mix. Your DJ’s in this room will be the fabulously skilled duo Dene Nevard and Greg Davidson, with a set by Alex Cumbers too. The genre timings will be along the lines of…

8pm – 9pm, Alternative Mix (Latin, Swing etc)

9pm – 11.15pm – Express Yourself (Smooth Jive, R’N’B, West Coast, Blues)

11.15-11.45pm – Ultra Chill Out (Blues, Tango Crossover)

Please note timings in the Richmond Room are approximate and there may be some crossover.

We hope you enjoy the selection we are offering and have a great night whichever room you dance in!

Charity Dance – Raffles!

Charity Dance – Raffles!

Thanks to some very generous donations, we will be holding two separate raffles during the evening of the 7th July, our big Charity Dance at Worthing Assembly Hall.

The first is solely for those who pre-purchase their tickets. Anyone who purchases their tickets before 9pm on Friday 6th July, and arrives at the event before 10pm, will be entered into a free raffle for a chance to win a lovely hamper, with items donated by the Co-Op in Bognor. This is just our way of saying thank you for showing your commitment to attend the event.

The second raffle is available for all. Raffle tickets will be on sale at the event and there are 15 lovely raffle prizes to be won. Prizes include Afternoon Tea at the Hilton Avisford Park, Free Dance Class Night Tickets, Beauty Treatments, Themed hampers, bottles of Whiskey, Panto Tickets, and even signed Formula 1 merchandise! Tickets will be £1 each.

Don’t panic – your evenings dancing wont be interrupted by a lengthy raffle drawing process! The raffle will be drawn after 10pm on the stage during the dancing and the list of winning numbers will be put up straight after for people to check. If you have won a prize, you can then simply come and claim it from the stage before you leave.

Important Note… As all prizes have been donated, every penny of money collected will automatically be added to our fundraising total for the evening. As you know, all the people involved in the event are offering their time for free, and the only costs we have incurred in running the event are the venue hire charge, and the costs of printing the tickets and the leaflets. Even the designing of the flyers was done for free!

So with your support, from both the tickets sales and the raffle, we hope to be able to give a good amount of money to the wonderful cause ‘Erins Dream to Dance’.

9.11.17 – Week 2 Technique focus and moves

This week we introduced our first specific technique focus; footwork patterns, connection, lead and follow and anticipation, and our warm up exercises were all based around this.

This weeks class routines:

Beginners – Basic Arm Jive, turn and return with hand change, Basic Yoyo, Back Hand Pass with return.

Improvers – Secret Move with lead-through exit, Yoyo Lasso Sway with return into Comb.

Look forward to seeing you next week.

2.11.17 – Opening night goes well

Our first Thursday class went well with several new faces arriving keen to learn Modern Jive. We worked through some basic beginner moves in the first class and then added extensions to these moves to create the Improver class. The practice time proved helpful too as people enjoyed the opportunity to practice what they had learnt. Already looking forward to next week.

Tonights moves were:

Beginners – Travelling Arm Jive, with travelling return, Basic First Move, Man Spin, Basic Catapult with travelling return.

Improvers – First Move Walkout with double turn ravelling return, Hatchflick, Accordian Pass, Double Comb Bowtie.

I First met Stacey when she came into the Assembly Rooms Worthing wanting to learn Modern Jive, I was Crew for Evolution Dance and took the beginner classes on Stage and the consolidation class in the Richmond Room.
It was very clear to me that Stacey had a natural flair for dance and very soon became part of the crew helping new dancers find their feet. Stacey then joined me on the stage as my Demo dancer which she loved and then went on to take the consolidation class herself.
Stacey loves teaching and went on to take her UK Federation of Dance Exams which she passed with flying colours.
When the time came for her to start her own Venue up Dance Infinity was moving away from the area and the Assembly Rooms became available then Jive Play was born. Sadly Stacey was forced to leave the Assembly Rooms through no fault of her own but now has the chance to teach in her new Venue.
If you are starting from scratch I can’t think of a better person to teach you to Modern Jive. Stacey takes into account age , ability and confidence.
Good luck Stacey with your new venture.

Stacey teaching is with a clear vision for its presentation with style and quality. She has a friendly manner and this is clear from the stage with her enthusiastic approach that she enjoys teaching. This effortlessly flows down from the stage and helps the dancers individually enjoy the sessions so much from her classes, they want more. She is aware at all times how the class is flowing and ready to give friendly advice, clarity and instructions if there are any difficult sections, making the end product, all the moves, connect with ease. After the class she is still ready to assist with any further clarifications on a one on one basis without a second thought (providing she not due back on stages lol). I enjoy seeing Stacey teach and the fun, while learning, the dancers have.
